Laura Landon
LICENSED LEGAL PARAPROFESSIONAL (LLP)
Cox Baker Page & Bailey, LLC
Laura began her legal career in 2009 as a family law paralegal - an area of law which felt both personally and professionally meaningful. During this time, and while raising her two sons, she earned her Bachelor of Legal Studies. Family law is a particularly challenging legal field, but Laura has come to appreciate the opportunity to help clients through difficult and emotional times as they navigate the legal system. She has supported a Colorado SuperLawyer for over a decade and routinely assists in complex litigation matters.
In 2021, Laura was invited to participate in a Colorado Supreme Court initiative to bring the Licensed Legal Paraprofessional (LLP) profession to Colorado. The state has long recognized a need for additional access to justice for the many individuals navigating family law issues without representation. The LLP program provides an alternative option for affordable legal services by licensing experienced family law paralegals and paraprofessionals to practice exclusively in family law. Laura has been volunteering and advocating for this new profession for several years and testified before the Colorado Supreme Court on its behalf in 2022.
After years dedicated to this cause, Laura is thrilled to see that it has finally come to fruition. She was one of Colorado's first LLPs sworn in at the Colorado Supreme Court on June 20, 2024 and continues to be a resource for new and aspiring LLPs.
As a LLP, Laura is able to assist clients in the preparation and resolution of their family law case – subject to specific limitations that are presented here. Consistent with her licensure to practice family law, Laura is an LLP member of the Colorado and Denver Bar Associations, as well as the Family Law Section of the Colorado Bar Association. She volunteers as Co-Chair of the Rocky Mountain Paralegal Association's LLP Section, educating paralegals about the profession and promoting the interests of LLPs within the legal community.
Laura is one of only two non-lawyer members of the Colorado Supreme Court’s LLP Oversight Committee and also serves on the subcommittee dedicated to clarification and changes to the rules related to LLPs.
Laura’s clients have described her as approachable and offering a confident and calming energy during the trying experiences of domestic conflict and litigation. She is familiar with the challenges that parents must navigate when undergoing a family law matter, and she offers a compassionate yet practical approach to helping clients move forward.
