Kim Utesch

ATTORNEY

Kim Utesch was born in Rahway, NJ, but spent the first years of her life as the daughter of a career Navy man, traveling around the country and then the majority of the rest of her childhood in the Philippines. The family moved to Colorado and Ms. Utesch attended high school there. Everyone else in the family left the state but Ms. Utesch chose to stay in Colorado, calls this home, and feels a deep connection here. 

Divorces and family issues can be some of the most stressful events in a person’s life and Ms. Utesch fully believes in assisting people move forward with their cases and their lives and strongly advocates for them while allowing them to have some control over what comes next by being open and truthful with them every step of the way. She has experience in all areas of domestic relations law including adoptions, divorces, LGBTQ issues, and custody issues.

Ms. Utesch graduated cum laude from Metropolitan State University of Colorado and received her J.D. from the University of Denver, Sturm College of Law. Ms. Utesch has worked in law firms her entire adult life, and while in law school worked as a law clerk for a family law attorney. For the last 14 years or so, Ms. Utesch has had a solo practice where she focused primarily on family law and domestic relations cases. 

Ms. Utesch was selected as a Colorado Rising Star from 2017 to 2021, and as a Super Lawyer from 2022 to 2026. She has been recognized by the Colorado Supreme Court for pro bono services from 2015 through 2025 and received the Metro Volunteer Lawyers Volunteer of the Year Award for the 18th Judicial District in 2024. 

Ms. Utesch was an extern for the Honorable Angela Arkin (Ret.) during law school. She is a trained mediator and believes helping families resolve their disputes strengthens families and helps their children. She has been recognized in the 2025 and 2026 editions of Best Lawyers in America for Family Mediation. She has also been trained in collaborative law.

Ms. Utesch is a member of the Colorado Bar Association, the Arapahoe County Bar Association Board of Directors, the Arapahoe County Bar Foundation Board, the Metropolitan Denver Interdisciplinary Committee, the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts, and is a professional member of the Mediation Association of Colorado.

Ms. Utesch spends her free time traveling, enjoying photography, playing with her dog and cat (and her husband), attending comedy shows, and watching Colorado sports teams.
